The sewing machine is one of those hugely significant labour-saving devices, invented during the industrial revolution, probably by British inventor Thomas Saint, who was first to patent such a device in 1791 (which was never built).
Probably many of us still remember, or even have, foot-pedal operated sewing machines, but did you know that the Singer Sewing Company developed an electrically-powered machine as long ago as 1889?
So look out for both pedal-powered and electrical vintage sewing machines in our listings below – just because it’s electric, doesn’t mean it isn’t vintage!
